Abstract

This study aimed to determine the improvement of volleyball vertical jump abilitty through box jump and depth jump plyometric training among male volleyball athletets of PBV Jaladewa. This research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretets-posttest design. The participants consisted of 14 male volleyball athletes aged 19 years who were selected using total sampling technique. The intervention was conducted for 12 weeks with two training sessions per week using a combined box jump and depth jump plyometric training program. Vertical jump ability was measured before and after the intervention using a vertical jump test. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and Wilcoxon Signes-Rank Test. The results showed that the mean vertical jump ability increased from 52.36 ± 7.53cm in the pretest to 55.36 ± 8.63cm in the posttest, with an average improvement of 3.00cm (5.73%). The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest score (Z= -3.354; p= 0.001). These findings indicate that box jump and depth jump plyometric training effectively improved lower-limb explosive power and vertical jump ability in male volleyball athletes. The improvement is attributed to neuromuscular adaptations, increased rate of force development, and enhanced utilization of the stretch-shortening cycle. Therefore, combined box jump and depth jump plyometric training can be considered an effective alternative training method for improving volleyball specific physical performance.
